Making a TV commercial is not easy; one must find a way to fit a cohesive narrative into a duration of usually 30 seconds or less. With this project, I was given only 15 seconds. I decided to create a commercial for a documentary about my favorite band, The Velvet Underground. The song featured is Sister Ray, which I consider to be one of the first punk rock songs to emerge in the 60’s
The song is experimental with a distorted and noisy sound to it. I used frame-by-frame animation so there would be a frantic and sketchy flow to the visuals, matching the energy of the song. The yellow colors and image of the banana were used to pay homage to the Velvet Underground’s most famous creative partner, Andy Warhol.
